An entrepreneurial spirit

The history of R&O begins much before the company was incorporated as such in 1990. Rosario Peña, the company’s owner and CEO is a woman that has led an entrepreneurial life and has managed to cope with difficult times but also has achieved great accomplishments in her personal and professional life, thanks to her optimism, ethics and determination. Rosario started to create hand-woven clothing at age 11, when her adoptive father got her, after selling an old corn sheller, her first secondhand knitting machine. With this machine, Rosario started manufacturing sweaters that were sell by some ladies who manufactured for Lindsay (a sweaters store in Montevideo). A year after that, Rosario decided to go to Montevideo with some samples to offer her products in a store inside Galería de London (a downtown mall). Rosario, only 12 years-old, not only convinced them to see her but also to buy more of her products. But it wasn´t untill many years later, that Rosario could make her dream come true, when a man believed in her potencial, and offered twenty Kg of yarn on credit, to help her out. That was how Rosario could start manufacturing and producing her own products.
